Large commercial losses can affect over 50,000 square feet of space, which requires multiple teams and larger equipment to properly dry and clean the property.
Smaller residential spaces often affect under 2,500 square feet, requiring less equipment and technicians.

What to expect when water damage happens
Water Removal
Service work normally begins with a thorough extraction of water. This helps prevent the spread of water in the structure and reduces drying time. Typically, hundreds or thousands of gallons of water are removed using powerful pumps and extraction units during the water removal process.
Damaged Material Removal
If any materials cannot be successfully restored, this will be communicated to you. These materials are typically removed as soon as possible to expedite the drying of all restorable materials.
Cleaning, Sanitizing, and Deodorization
Water damage can create cleaning, sanitizing, or deodorization needs for floors, furniture, and other personal belongings. SERVPRO professionals use a variety of specially formulated products, industry-leading equipment, and proven techniques to accomplish this important aspect of restoration.
Drying
After the bulk of the water has been removed, our specialists use industry-leading drying equipment to remove the water you can’t see. This will target water within materials to bring these materials back to their normal moisture level. This equipment is normally placed during the first visit to your property. The type and amount of equipment is based on your unique situation and industry standards.

The water restoration process summed up
Yesterday we touched on the basic outline of the water restoration process.
Today, we'll take a look at the final steps. Remember: your situation is unique, and you'll have many more questions.
The water removal process begins almost immediately and removes the majority of the water. We use powerful pumps and vacuum units to quickly remove hundreds or thousands of gallons from your property, which helps prevent secondary water damage and mold growth.
We use specialized equipment to remove the remaining water that is harder to access. Our Professionals will use room measurements, temperature, and relative humidity to determine the optimal number of air movers and dehumidifiers needed to dry your home or business.
We clean all of the restorable items and structures damaged by the water. We are adept at cleaning contents using a number of techniques. Our professionals are trained to provide sanitizing treatments and to remove odors and deodorize your property.
Restoration is the process of restoring your home or business to its pre-water damage condition. Restoration may involve minor repairs, such as replacing drywall and installing new carpet, or may entail major repairs, such as the reconstruction of various areas or rooms in a home or business.

What is "secondary" damage?
3/21/2021 (Permalink)
Antimicrobial applications provide a healthier environment
You've heard us mention the term "secondary" damage on our website, blogs and Facebook posts.
But what, exactly, is it?
The water restoration industry uses this term to describe damages that can happen after the water loss itself.
Oftentimes, we use it to describe microbial growth that occurs when a property is still in the drying process.
This can occur when demolition of wet materials, such as sheet rock, insulation, and carpeting are still in place, and the moisture from these items are showing microbial growth.
While secondary damages cannot always be prevented due to demolition and drying processes, we can control the damage.
SERVPRO of Wichita Falls technicians continuously monitor job sites, and will treat surfaces with an antimicrobial product to eliminate and prohibit future growth.
This attention to detail lets you rest easy, knowing our expertly trained technicians diligently follow the restoration process to ensure a healthy environment.
Technology speeds drying time
3/17/2021 (Permalink)
We utilize advanced technology to ensure proper drying
"How long will it take to dry my home?"
That question is frequently asked by homeowners after suffering water damage.
The answer depends on the amount of damage, and the overall area affected.
When you call SERVPRO of Wichita Falls, our expertly trained technicians will inspect your property to thoroughly assess the damage.
This helps us determine the proper drying protocol to ensure your home will be completely dry and healthy, and to minimize secondary damages.
Smaller areas, such as a kitchen or bathroom, may only need three to five days of drying time. Larger areas can take up to seven days, or longer, depending on any demolition that may be required.
Our technicians will walk you through the drying process, and explain it every step of the way.

Water damages historic Kell House Museum

Here to help with historic losses
"Built in 1909 by local pioneer Frank Kell, the Kell House bridges past, present, and future.
The Kell House Museum tells the history of Wichita Falls through the eyes of the Kell family. Tours of this local, state, and national landmark include stories of the Kell family, the city that grew around them, and their contributions to the community and nation."
A true jewel in the history of Wichita Falls. And sadly, severely damaged due to burst pipes from the recent winter weather.
SERVPRO of Wichita Falls is honored to be a part of the restoration of this historic property, and saddened beyond words at the scope of the damage.
Here's a brief article from the museum's Facebook page: "On Tuesday, February 23, 2021, as a result of the big thaw following Snowmaggedon 2021, we were greeted with water gushing in the Kell House Museum. Some water spread out into the pool room and traveled into the library, but the bulk of it filled our basement to at least five feet.
We would like to offer a great big Thank You! to Brian's Plumbing, Trinity Hughes Construction, and SERVPRO of Wichita Falls (Thank you Michael), for your help in getting the situation under control!"
The restoration process will be a long one, and all of us at SERVPRO of Wichita Falls will be doing our part to help in the complete recovery of this historic home.

Time matters when it comes to water damage
3/3/2021 (Permalink)
A fast response is important when mitigating water damage
Water damage comes in many sizes and from many different sources.
With the recent winter storms, the majority of water loss calls we've received are due to busted pipes.
While some may be relatively small, such as one that affects a kitchen or bathroom, others have flooded entire properties and left water standing up to eighteen inches deep.
Regardless of the size of the damage, time is what matters most.
The quicker we receive notice of water damage, the faster we can deploy our team of water restoration experts to begin the restoration process.
An inspection of the property will help us determine the scope of the loss, the equipment needed to properly dry the property, and the amount of time it will take to restore your home or office.
One call to the restoration experts at SERVPRO of Wichita Falls and we'll help make water damage - big or small - "Like it never even happened."
When frozen pipes thaw, water damage can happen
3/1/2021 (Permalink)
Broken pipes flood facility dining room
Temperatures are slowly on the rise after February's arctic blast.
While this is a cause for celebration, it's also a cause for concern.
As your pipes begin to thaw, they may burst, causing water damage.
This customer called us in the midst of the severe weather with that very problem.
Though they were fortunate not to loose power, their heating system simply could not keep up with the subzero temperatures.
Water pipes in the ceilings and along exterior walls froze, and burst, causing employees to scramble to contain the damage.
Then they called SERVPRO of Wichita Falls. Our team of expertly trained professionals quickly began extracting water and moved furnishings to dry areas.
Once the extraction process was complete, our team established a drying protocol to ensure the property was completely and thoroughly dry.

A small leak is still a big deal
2/18/2021 (Permalink)
Small job versus large job: we treat them the same.
A friend once asked, "What's the difference in a small water leak versus a big one? What do you do different?"
Nothing. A small leak has the same damaging consequences as a large one, and both should be addressed equally.
Let's say you had a toilet overflow, which only affected the bathroom and two adjacent rooms. If not thoroughly dried and cleaned, you could soon see secondary damage (like mold) appear.
The same is true if your hot water heater failed and flooded the entire first floor of your home. Without proper restoration, more costly damages could occur.
The rule of thumb: when it comes to water damage, the experts at SERVPRO of Wichita Falls utilize the latest technology and restoration innovation to ensure your property is completely dried and safe from secondary damages.
When water damage happens, trust the professionals at SERVPRO of Wichita Falls.
Small leaks can cause major damage

Water damage destroys flooring
Hidden water leaks that go undetected for long periods of time can create major damage to your home or business.
This customer kept noticing damp spots on her carpet, but couldn't locate the source or track the frequency.
When she heard SERVPRO of Wichita Falls offers free inspections, she called to see if we could locate the source.
It took time, but our expertly trained technicians discovered a small, pinhole leak in the crawlspace.
One of her water lines had been stapled to the sub-floor, and slowly began spraying water onto the joists and subfloor along its path.
Once our team located the source, we were able to turn it off and begin the restoration process.
Sadly, though it was a small leak, it created major damage to the hardwood floors and subfloors.

Mitigating damage and restoring your property
We get a lot of compliments on how professional and friendly our certified technicians are.
They arrive on site, thoroughly inspect your property, and immediately start the extraction and drying process.
If we could rewind to earlier this morning, and watch our technician awake to a burst hot water heater, it would be a different picture.
Imagine him frantically rushing around to turn the water off, throwing every towel and sheet in the house on the wet floors, all while trying to coral five kids and worrying about getting to work on time.
Sound familiar?
At SERVPRO, we're human, too. We have the same responses and reactions to fire, water and storm damage in our homes as you do.
Once the damage has been contained and we head into the shop, it's a different picture.
Now we're here to help you, and our losses are pushed into the distant past.
Why? Because it's the SERVPRO way.
Not up to code, and not up to the task

When it's more than just a water leak, call SERVPRO!
When we arrive on site to a water damage claim, we often have to search for the source.
Not in this case. The moment our technicians arrived and saw this set up, they knew that not only had the water heater gone out, but the installation was certainly not proper.
Continued inspection showed water had seeped through the wall and into the living room, saturating insulation and the wood floors.
After determining what city code required to remove, replace, and relocate a new unit, we provided the customer with an estimate as well as the estimated time of completion.
They were very happy to know that the drying process would only take three days, and the restoration would be completed within the week.
Another happy customer. Another restoration adapted to code. That's why we're the #1 recommended restoration company.

Leaking hot water heater ruins new carpet
Before purchasing new carpet, might we recommend you check your hot water heater?
Here at SERVPRO of Wichita Falls, we respond to a lot of water damage calls. And quite often the culprit is an old hot water heater.
Manufacturers recommend replacing these every ten years. They know the majority of hot water heaters last between eight and tens years.
We also know that even if your hot water heater is in a location that won't cause a lot of damage if there is a leak, even those in the garage could still cause damage to adjoining rooms.
When was the last time you checked your hot water heater? Does it have a drip pan? Is it plumbed to the outside to prevent water damage?

Plummeting temperatures may lead to bursting pipes.
1/25/2019 (Permalink)
Temperatures will be frigid this week in Texoma!
Temperatures are set to plummet this week across Texas and Oklahoma, according to the Norman reporting center.
SERVPRO of Wichita Falls wants to remind our followers to bring your pets inside and follow these simple tips to avoid potential water damage from bursting pipes:
When temperatures plummet, the risk of your pipes freezing and bursting skyrockets. In fact, burst pipes are one of the most common causes of property damage during frigid weather and can cause thousands in water damage—easily $5,000 or more.
The pipes most at risk are those in unheated interior spaces such as basements, attics, and garages. But even pipes running through cabinets or exterior walls can freeze. The good news is there are some simple things you can do to keep your water running and your house dry.
“Pipe insulation can cost as little as 50 cents per linear foot at your local hardware store,” says Susan Millerick, IBHS spokeswoman. “So for not much more than the cost of the aspirin you’d need, you can avoid the headaches of cleanup, loss of precious keepsakes, and the cost of your insurance deductible.” Use the pipe insulation liberally to protect any vulnerable pipes.
Both the IBHS and the American Red Cross, which is in the business of emergency preparedness, have useful advice on how to prevent your pipes from freezing, as well as how to thaw them if they do.

Get The Facts About Mold Growth After Flooding
3/22/2018 (Permalink)
Flooding from broken pipes can cause massive amounts of damage if not cared for properly. Water damage can ruin flooding and sheetrock, leading to extensive repairs that may be expensive. The longer water is left unattended, the more damage it can cause, so the water cleanup process should be done quickly and efficiently.
Assessing the Damage
Damage from a broken pipe may be limited to a single room or, if left undetected for several days, could spread throughout an entire floor. To understand exactly needs to be done, it is important to remove any remaining water with the help of a sump or a trash pump and then thoroughly examine the damaged area. There are two types of damage to look for:
1. Water damage. This type of destruction involves any damage to the structure of your home from the flood. It includes ruined wood flooring, carpet, sheetrock, and insulation, among other structural components.
2. Secondary damage. Unlike other types of damage, this type of problem may not be visible without a thorough investigation. Warm, moist environments can become a breeding ground for mold, mildew, and bacteria, so these fungi and pathogens thrive under wet carpet and in porous materials. In many cases, removing mold is more difficult than repairing structural damage.
Calling a Professional
Not only is repairing and restoring your home from flooding often difficult and time-consuming, but fixing secondary damage often requires the help of a qualified restoration company. Household cleaning products may not be strong enough to remove mold, and thoroughly disinfecting the area is necessary for safety. Call for help quickly to reduce the amount of damage caused by flooding.
In many cases, having broken pipes is difficult to handle on your own. After assessing the damage, calling a company for the water cleanup process may be a good idea. To reduce the impact of water damage, the issue should be dealt with quickly and efficiently. Visit http://www.SERVPROwichitafalls.com for more information on water damage.
Are you winter weather ready?
11/29/2017 (Permalink)
Are you prepared for the coming cold
weather? Cold weather can have a huge
impact on your home or business if you
are not ready for it. From heavy rain
and freezing temperatures to damaging
winds, sleet, or snow, all can cause
serious and costly property damage.
While you cannot control the weather,
you can take steps to be prepared and
help take the sting out of winter weather.
To help prevent costly damages due to
weather, consider taking the following
precautions to protect your property
before colder weather hits.
- Check your business property
for downed tree limbs and
branches. Wind, heavy rain, ice,
and snow can cause branches to
fall, which could cause damage
to the property and potentially
cause personal injuries.
- Roofs, water pipes, and gutters
should all be inspected to ensure
they are in proper order. Gutter
downspouts should be directed
away from your building. Clear
gutters of debris that may have
gathered during the fall. Leaves
and other obstructions can
cause a damming effect, which
can lead to roof damage and
interior water problems.
- Inspect property, especially
walkways and parking lots, for
proper drainage to alleviate
flood hazard potential.
- Inspect all handrails, stairwells,
and entryways to address and
correct potential slippery or
hazardous areas. Install mats or
non-slip surfaces and post caution
signs where water could be present.
- Protect water pipes from freezing
by simply allowing water to drip
when temperatures dip below
freezing. If pipes are under a
cabinet, leave the cabinet doors
open, allowing warm inside air
to circulate around the pipes. If
the building has outdoor faucets,
consider shutting water off at the
main valve in the basement or
crawl space. Once the valve is off,
open the outdoor faucet to ensure
it drains, preventing any remaining
water from freezing in the pipe.
